Rutger Valentijn Mauritz conducts Cantatekaravaan

Mauritz

Rutger Valentijn Mauritz began with violin, but soon found his path in choral conducting and church music. He studied at the conservatoires of Utrecht and Maastricht and sang during and after his studies in choirs including the Domcantorij of Utrecht and the Kölner Kammerchor.

As a conductor he has worked with a wide range of ensembles, including Ensemble Vocal de Luxembourg, and led projects with students and musicians from Codarts Rotterdam, the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag and the Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen.

After his master's degree in choral and orchestral conducting in Maastricht, he also completed Arts and Culture Studies at Universiteit Maastricht. From 2016 to 2024 he was cantor of the Grote of Maria Magdalenakerk in Goes.

Alongside his work as a conductor, Rutger is active as an artistic adviser, including for Fonds Podiumkunsten, the Raad voor Cultuur and the culture department of the City of Rotterdam. Within CANTATEKⱯRAVAAN he brings historical music to life with craft, imagination and Zeeland proximity.

CANTATEKⱯRAVAAN is a travelling music company of Stichting Maria Magdalena Cantorij | Goes. Led by Rutger Valentijn Mauritz, the ensemble brings cantatas and related vocal music to churches, villages and special places in Zeeland. Early music, close by: polyphonic, hospitable and rooted in the place where it sounds.
